Names We Carry
Interactive ExperienceTo analyze real-life social dynamics and communicate our findings through an activation in the real world by engaging with real people.
As a group, we established a method where we spent time working individually before collectively sharing and working on our projects, resulting in balanced individual voices in our design decisions and work.
For this project, we explored the phenomenon of majority and minority in our social lives. Beginning with larger social issues related to false majority, we shifted our perspective into a microscopic approach by evaluating how these dynamics impact each of us personally.
The Names We Carry was born from our experience of navigating life by adjusting our name and identity to situate ourselves in a country that does not speak our language. Therefore, we observed, collected, and shared our own and other people’s stories of those who experienced the same dynamics.
Interviews and story submissions were conducted to listen to others' stories and experiences about their names, followed by a public viewing and listening session held at Clinton-Washington G Train station in Brooklyn to share those stories. An exhibition was then organized to showcase the entire process.
